The Portage la Prairie Community
Revitalization Corporation is working hard to
enhance the well-being of our community by empowering
citizens, improving neighbourhoods, fostering community
spirit and building the capacity of community organizations.
Summer 2010
Summer has arrived! What a perfect time to host a
Revitalize Portage! Block Party. Getting to know
your neighbours can improve the feeling of community safety,
respond to community issues in your neighbourhood and well,
just have lots of fun together! If you would like to apply
for funds to host a gathering in your neighbourhood this
summer, please visit our Funding
Programs page to download an application form.
Our Community Safety Audits pilot program
has been kicked off with a team of community members being
trained in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design
(CPTED) and hitting the streets to evaluate neighbourhoods
using their new skills. It is not too late to get involved
as we are taking names for people interested in taking the
training in the Fall.
We are currently accepting applications for the
Revitalize Portage! Grants program for projects
taking place between July 2010 and June 2011. If you have a
project in need of funding up to $2,500 that addresses
community needs please submit an application! Applications
will be accepted on an ongoing basis until all available
funds are spent.
The Neighbourhoods
Alive! Neighbourhood Renewal Fund deadline is
also fast approaching on October 15th. If you would like
assistance planning a community project in the areas of
poverty reduction, community engagement, capacity building,
affordable recreation and leisure or capacity building
please contact our office. We are happy to work with you to
engage community partners, plan project details and assist
you in the development of your proposal.
We are
also challenging Portage la Prairie residents to tell us what
makes Portage la Prairie or your neighbourhood special. Send
your entry to our office or to
info@PortageCRC.com
and you will be entered to win a special prize as well as
having your story printed in our next newsletter!
We welcome your ideas on how to Revitalize Portage and would
love to hear from you!
