About CBYF

Communities Building Youth Futures (CBYF) in Portage la Prairie launched in 2020 and is based out of the Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC). The goal of the CBYF project is to improve the lives of youth aged 15-30 in Portage la Prairie and the surrounding area.

Our vision is a youth-oriented, inclusive and diverse community, where every young person thrives, feels supported and looks forward to the bright future.

Communities Building Youth Futures recognizes the support of Tamarack Institute and the Government of Canada through the Goal Getters Program.

Our Leadership Table consists of members from: Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation, Portage la Prairie School Division, Youth for Christ, Portage Friendship Centre, the Family Resource Centre, Long Plain First Nation, Southern Health-Santé Sud Regional Health Authority, Portage Learning and Literacy Centre, Red River College, City of Portage, Portage Regional Economic Development and local youth.

Our Areas of Focus

Youth Engagement

We envision a future where youth feel involved in the community and are included in making decisions that impact them.

Mental Health

We envision a future where youth know of all the resources available to them and are able to easily access those services whenever they need to.

Employment

We envision a future where there are local job and training opportunities in the community for youth.

Education

We envision a future where more students graduate high school and can easily access trades, college or university programs. We also see a future where creative options exist for hands-on, culturally appropriate learning.

Current Projects

Youth Resource Guide

CBYF has created the youth resource guide which aims to provide youth aged 15-30 in the Portage la Prairie area with local, provincial and virtual resources that could be useful for a variety of scenarios.  The resource guide is a live document which will be edited and kept up to date.  For more information and to view the resource guide click HERE!

The Roving Campus

The Roving Campus is a partnership between CBYF and the Portage Collegiate Institute that was generously funded by the Tamarack Institute's Innovation Fund. The Roving Campus was created to engage students who were at risk of not completing high-school on time due to non-attendance. By removing barriers and turning the province into the classroom, the Roving Campus has found its pilot of the 20-21 school year to be wildly successful. Click HERE to read a case study about the project. If you are interested in getting involved with the Roving Campus project as a volunteer, please contact us!

CBYF Youth Council

We are excited to have our youth council. We are still recruiting local youth aged 15-30 who have ideas on how to make our community better, and want those ideas to be heard.  At CBYF, we know that youth are our future and we want to make sure your voice is heard.
